On the road from Montreal to Montana.

Soon after I was in New York Mat and I hit the road and headed up through New England to the promised land of Montreal.

Montreal has a large park next to downtain that is situated on a mountain and offers great views of the city.

McGill University had a great looking campus.

The Cathedral of Notre-Dame was apparently something that one can't miss, so I didn't.

I wasn't disappointed, though there was an admission fee (a first for a church on this trip) it was worth it, the Cathedral is wonderfully decorated inside and had a fantastic atmosphere.

Next on the trip we headed down through Ontario to Niagra falls. This is the American side.

The Canadian side.

Scary looking closeup.

After Niagra we ventured west untill we hit Chicago where we met my sister Renee. After a short rest we continuned west over the Mississippi.

Renee and Matt.

West of the Mississippi is pretty much corn and hay.

In these parts they have some odd customs.

We reached South Dakota and made a beeline for the south-west corner. This is from the Badlands National Park.

Matt didn't fall to his doom...yet.

An entire herd/family of deer ran past us to graze, this is only a third of the group.

With all these opporunities you think they would've slipped by now.

We next went to Mount Rushmore which is magnificently carved but disappointingly small.

The Crazy Horse Monument is not finished but will not disappoint those looking for something bigger.

To give you an idea of size, this is the monument from maybe a kilometer away.

what the finished product will look like, note the mountain in the background.

We then went looking for animals, Custer State Park was disappointing but upon leaving it we found a lot of Bison just wandering around.

We went to Wind Cave so see some "boxwork calcite" (??? - see below)

Which is this stuff apparently.

And then we headed into the Sunset.

Next up, Yellowstone National Park to Vegas (current location).
